3 tricks to suppress your appetite

3 Tricks to Suppress your appetite

Another good article appeared today in the fitness section of MSNBC.

Since you’re busy, I’ll do a quick summary of the article — the good stuff, the bad stuff, and what you need to do today to get started…

First, you need to know this…

And this will probably shock you…

Rarely, if EVER, do you need to suppress your appetite!

The real secret is to increase your metabolism… the rate at which your body uses food for fuel.

Then being hungry is a good thing… as long as you’re eating the right foods at the right time.

My “Favorite Foods” plan is a great way to do this…

My “Favorite Foods” Dietplan revealed <== click.

But let’s say you want to curb your appetite at night…. that’s the time most people really lose it on a diet plan. Even on a plan that ASKS you to eat frequently like mine, there are times where night-time cravings need to be put to sleep.

So use these tips from the article to ease the urge to eat at night:

1. Protein First

As I say in my diet plan, “Rise and shine with protein.” What does this have to do with night-time cravings you ask?

Everything.

Set the body up to use your own fat-stores for fuel by eating protein in the morning and your appetite FOR fatty foods goes way down during the day and the night. Protein is “thermogenic”, meaning it helps increase your metabolism. It also acts as a natural appetite regulator.

Notice I said “regulator” and not “suppressant.” That’s because you only need to regulate your appetite, no matter how much bodyfat you desire to drop.

I show you how here:

My “Favorite Foods” Dietplan revealed <== click.

Cool, right?

2. Go For The Grapefruit

In a study at the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, people who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost an average of 3.6 pounds in three months. That doesn’t sound like a lot (and it isn’t) but that’s ALL they changed.

It doesn’t matter for our purposes… we want to lower insulin at night. Why? Insulin is not only dangerous for your health in excess but it also can cause a LOT of fat storage if secreted too much at night. Enter the lowly grapefruit.

A great snack, especially if you have a few bites of lean protein with it.

3. Smell This!

This is a trick I didn’t know about until recently.

Smelling food can trick your brain into thinking you’ve eaten.

A recent study found that those who inhaled peppermint in scent form every 2 hours at (get this) 2700 calories LESS per week than they normally did.

Let me put that in perspective: That’s a fatloss of more than half a pound a week… from sniffing peppermint!

Vanilla also works. You can keep vanilla-scented drops or even candles around the office and take a wiff every few hours.

How easy is that?

The Bad Part

The MSNBC article goes on with advice like “eat potatoes” and “eat just a little bit of fat”, both of which are nonsense.

Potatoes may fill you up, but they are still starch – and starch should be consumed on your “off” days.

Potatoes are especially bad due to the higher-than-desired glycemic index of 85 (anything over 50 is too high.)

You also need dietary fat… and not just “a little.” You need a moderate amount to stay healthy and keep insulin regulated.

Olive oil and even coconut oil are excellent sources, as are naturally occurring fats in fresh fish, grass-fed beef, farm-raised chicken and whole eggs.

The rest of the article is common sense stuff: Workout, eat dense food that requires you to chew a lot (tire out the jaw muscles and you naturally eat less), etc.

The top 3 are the real winners.

Question: What are you without an immune system?
Answer: You are dead.

As morbid as it may sound, it’s true. When your immune system is weak you will get sick. When your immune system completely fails you will die.

How to Spot Reduce and Burn ONLY the Fat Off Your Stomach..

How to Spot Reduce and Burn ONLY the Fat Off Your Stomach…
By Nick Nilsson

I’ll share with you my top-secret technique for burning ONLY the fat off your stomach. This is spot-reducing at its best…you can even apply this technique to ANY other specific areas you want to tone up!

Yep, it’s exciting and I know you’re curious so I’ll get right into it!

To perform this technique, you’re going to need a roll of duct tape, 3 double cheeseburgers, a set of jumper cables and a housecat…

Ok, you’re going to hate me for this…

The truth is there IS no top-secret technique for spot reducing and burning only the fat from your stomach. I made that headline up in hopes that you would at least read far enough into this article to learn the TRUTH about how your body burns fat and WHERE it burns fat from (and I’ll try to keep it entertaining so you actually want to read the whole thing 🙂 ).

And honestly, this type of question is one of THE most frequently asked questions I’ve gotten in all the years I’ve been answering questions online…

“How do I get rid of fat from just my [insert area here]?”

Bottom line is, you can’t. And even those stupid creams and lotions won’t do it (one of these days I swear I’m going to get one of those creams and put it only on the left side of my abs and not the right and see what happens…I’m sure I’ll have a ripped 3 pack within days).

To lose fat from any one specific place in your body, you’re going to have to lose it from EVERYWHERE ELSE, too. There’s really no getting around it.

I like to use the analogy of a swimming pool (I “borrowed” this one from fat-loss guru Tom Venuto)…

When you’re filling up a swimming pool (the pool is your total amount of body fat), the deep end fills up first, right? Then the shallow end fills up as the water level rises.

Generally speaking, the deep end can be compared to the areas where you put on fat FIRST. The shallow end is where you put on fat LAST.

When you go to lose fat, look at the swimming pool again…when you drain the swimming pool, you can’t drain water from just the deep end! It drains from the whole pool at once…the shallow end shows it first, THEN the deep end last.

So basically (and fairly depressingly!), the fat you want to get rid of FIRST is the fat that’s going to come off pretty much LAST. To burn just stomach fat (or thigh fat or back fat), you’d have to figure out a way to defeat the entire system your body uses to store fat.

Sticking a vacuum into your belly with surgery is one way to do it – taking useless pills like Acai Berry definitely WON’T do it, no matter how many “simple rules” you follow (in that case, the simple rule is “give us all your money so you can’t afford food anymore” – I guess that one actually WILL work).

And that’s not even all your options for losing stomach fat…Here’s a few more…..

1. Starvation dieting – this is THE best way to lose weight…of course, it’ll be mostly muscle, which will send your metabolism into a nosedive, which will make it harder to continue to lose weight, which will make it easier to REGAIN weight, which will keep that lovely stomach fat firmly where you left it, even though the precious scale shows a smaller number…oops, somebody changed the calibration on it…you actually weigh more now…never mind.

2. Diet pills – pretty much all of these will work for you, especially the ones that say you can eat anything you want and still lose weight (just make sure you’re never more than 15 feet from a bathroom). You know the manufacturers are only interested in your success and well-being, after all! And don’t forget, the heart is a muscle and the faster it goes, the more calories you burn, right! Who wouldn’t want to have their heart-rate up in the “training zone” while they’re sleeping…talk about efficiency!

3. High Impact Aerobics For Beginners – the good news is, soft tissue injuries require a LOT of calories to heal up, so bust out those Step Tae Bosu Dance tapes and go nuts!

Okay, let’s move on to some of the more “radical, unproven” stuff ;)…

1. Eating natural, wholesome foods – what a crock! The only thing anybody has ever lost from eating this garbage is fat. Oh wait…

2. Weight training – even more useless than good nutrition, weight training is something to stay away from. All it will do is build muscle and increase your metabolism. Same with interval training…it’s the worst.

3. Supplementing with multivitamins, minerals, fish oil and protein – I know…I can’t make this stuff up! Some people actually USE these things to support their nutrition while eating natural foods and training with weights for fat loss. I guess their quack doctors wouldn’t write out a prescription for Orlistat or Xenical or Gottapoopital.

So bottom line, fat loss isn’t rocket science…just don’t eat anything, take a lot of pills and thrash around for hours on end until you hurt yourself.

THIS Makes You Gain Weight

News and Views from Guest Blogger, Author, Fitness Expert Extraordinaire – Jon Benson

Caution:

This sounds like a silly question, but it’s really the most important question you can ask:

“What REALLY makes me increase my bodyfat?”

Is it too many calories? Sure. That’s one part. But I know people who can eat 4-5K calories a day and not add an ounce.

Is it dietary fat? Rarely if ever.

Fat is necessary to melt bodyfat. It is true that fat has more calories per gram than protein or carbs, but let’s look at this logically:

40% protein; 40% carbs; 20% fat = 40% fat; 40% protein; 20% carbs

So… no. Increasing your dietary fat does not mean you’ll get fatter…

UNLESS… ready?

Your insulin levels are too high.

Elevated insulin is not only the prime cause of diabetes and a sign of being hypoglycemic, but it’s also the prime numero uno reason people get fat.

And insulin is stimulated most by too many carbohydrates… even the so-called “healthy carbs!”

HOWEVER… ready again?

You can still eat carbs… you do not need a “low-carb” dietplan every day in order to keep your insulin and bodyfat low.

You just have to know what TIME to eat the carbs.

There’s a time and place for everything and carbs are no exception.

I have a presentation here that tells you more about how important timing is and how you can eat your carbs (even sweets) and shed bodyfat…

… here:

The EODD System <–carb-friendly dietplan

That being said:

If I had to cut one thing out of my diet for 1-4 days it would definitely be carbs.

I need fat… fat helps melt bodyfat… and I have trained my body to use its own fat-stores for fuel.

( See how on the linked-page above )

I DEFINITELY need protein… and so do you.

Protein speeds up thermogenesis, or your body’s own fat-burning heat factory.

Protein also blunts your appetite so you naturally eat less.

Some carbs are healthy… and I do not recommend you cut out low-sugar fruits and green veggies… you need that stuff.

But you don’t need grains, breads, etc.

At least for a few days.

THEN… you need them… but only after you do two things.

Find out more here:

The EODD System <–carb-friendly dietplan

Remember: Don’t Quit. Get Fit!

P.S. My favorite “Feed Meal” (that’s what I call meals where I eat a lot of calories and carbs) is this:

Small serving of protein (1/2 my normal serving size) like chicken, tuna, etc.

Brown rice or baked potato

Slice of pecan pie (or Key Lime pie… yum.)

Then later that day I’ll have a few slices of New York-style pizza.

The next day I’m LEANER. It never fails.

The only time this can fail is if you do not set your body UP to receive these carbs and some junk food.

I call this my “Real World Favorite Foods Dietplan.” That’s not the name of my System but it could be! That’s exactly what it is.

I love it… so will you…

How to Gain Muscle Mass on 3 Meals a Day

Here’s another great article
By Nick Nilsson

For those who work for a living, it can be extremely tough to get
the 5 or 6 meals a day often recommended. I’ve got a plan that
can help you get the calories you need on
limited time (and appetite!).

Three square meals a day…breakfast, lunch and dinner. Can a person achieve great muscle-building results with just three meals a day?

Absolutely…and I’ll tell you how.

It’s all about meal timing and quantity.

Before I get started, please note it IS very true that you’re better off eating smaller, more frequent meals, both for muscle building and fat loss. I’m not going to argue with that.

The problem arises because many people simply CAN’T get more than 3 meals day.

Here’s my solution…

1. Plan to train in the late afternoon/early evening, if you can. For our meal timing, this will be the best option.

2. Have a moderately large breakfast…eggs, oatmeal, broccoli…whatever else you normally eat. Breakfast is the second most important meal of the day (for our purposes here, at least) and it’s not going to be your biggest.

3. Have a medium-sized lunch…at this point, you’re looking to not overload your digestive system with food (you already did that with breakfast) because you’ll be training fairly soon.

4. Do your workout and have your post-workout shake.

5. DINNER is going to be your biggest meal of the day. Because your body is primed to take full advantage of whatever you eat after training THIS is the time to load up. You should get at least half your days calories or more in this meal…overloading calories like this is extremely anabolic and your body will thrive on it.

6. Next day, repeat.

That’s the plan! It’s nothing complicated, of course, but I’ve been using this type of eating and training schedule for a long time and it’s been extremely effective for me.

If you can squeeze in a few small snacks during the day, go for it! But if you don’t have time for 5 or 6 meals a day, don’t stress about it. Your body can cope and you can definitely still make great progress!
