CHICAGO – Just like age-defying baby boomers, older folks have seen a surge in knee replacement surgeries, driven partly by a desire to stay active and by joint-damaging obesity.

So, obviously knee replacement surgery is not typically considered a lifethreatening condition, like heart conditions or diabetes, yet it is another pit fall of being too far over weight.

I know I personally noticed a big difference after I had lost about 30 pounds a few years ago. My knee felt a ton better. I noticed it even more when  I would carry my young son of about 30 pounds at the time up the stairs. OUCH!!! I could really feel it.
